Bio
As a Christian fiction writer, Lacey Markt dresses truth in superhero tights, jettisons from Omaha, Nebraska to other worlds, and creates stories both on the page and while playing with her three kids. Her husband Jon is her biggest fan and also her favorite brainstorming partner.
While not a hero herself, Lacey battles shadows at bedtime and a fiendish bad guy who seems to be speeding up time. Like her main character Clark, she has to fight these battles as an average human being, but if she could have one superpower it would be invisibility.
Currently, Lacey is working on The Eagleboy Exploits, a superhero series geared towards kids ages 10-12.
How I Became a DIY Author…
I’ve always been a DIYer. My past is littered with semi-successful projects and even less successful Pinterest fails.
- An ugly lamp cobbled together out of a flower vase and tiny red foam balls. (I should see if I can find a picture.)
- The shark sleeping bag complete with lopsided eyeballs and jaggedy teeth I labored over. Shark and mermaid sleeping bags became popular in stores a few months later. (I’m not saying I’m responsible for a bestselling trend, but if anyone wants to send me a check, I’ll take it).
- A felt busy book that took hours and hours to stitch and was barely played with.
The problem isn’t me (or so I tell my husband when the urge to create overtakes me). The problem is that I can’t find in stores what I see in my head. I have to make it myself.
Authoring a book began the same way.
I was reading my five-year-old daughter all these cute little chapter books like American Girl’s The Welliewishers by Valerie Tripp with morals like being a good friend, resourcefulness, creativity, etc. My three-year-old son would lean his little head against my shoulder and listen, enjoying the story, too.
Awww… I wonder…could I find him books with fun plots and meaningful lessons, only with boy characters?
A trip to the library and numerous web searches later, the trajectory of my life shot sideways.
There was nothing.
Sure, I found fun books with favorite characters like Lego Star Wars and Batman, but they were not quite what I was looking for.
Oh well, I’d just have to write something myself.
Fast Forward…FIVE YEARS LATER and numerous drafts piling up on my kitchen table…
…The Eagleboy Exploits: The Great Friend Feud was complete.
I read it to my son, who was quite a bit older than three, and and he and my two girls loved it. For fun, I passed the story around to a few relatives who knew about this project. I blame my mom for pushing me from the diving board of ‘writer’ into the deep end of ‘authorship’. She encouraged me to share Eagleboy with the world.
My initial response? No, thanks.
But the more people I shared my story with, the more I knew that Eagleboy was a gift and gifts should be shared.
So, how did I become an author? I was given a gift and I want to share it with you. I hope it blesses you and your family.
Favorite Books
My favorite stories often feature…
- a feisty female character with an outspoken mythical creature for her friend.
- Better yet…a gutsy heroine solving the mysterious disappearance of that same mythical creature friend.
- Best yet…our courageous champion jumping to another world or into the past to solve the mystery of her missing friend and doing it all in a skirt.
But there are so many AMAZING and CREATIVE books out there. One of my lifetime goals would be to read them all. Except, no scary stories, please. Hmm…Actually, I think that section of the library was closed for construction the last…fifty…times I visited. Too bad. I won’t be able to check out books like 10 Ghostly Tales to Keep Lacey Up All Night.
Okay, let’s get back on topic. Ahem. Where was I?
Oh yes…favorite books.
Is it nerdy to get your favorite books in your author photoshoot?
No? Phew. I knew you’d feel that way.
And my shoes got in there, too, because, well, they’re mighty good-looking shoes. And because Clark in The Eagleboy Exploits wears Vans. Only his are black high-tops. I don’t know how he’d feel about yellow Hawaiian print. But a lady has got to have summer sneaks.
